He invited his friends to stay in one of the four bedrooms, creating a Hollywood home away from Hollywood home. The comfortably designed but well-appointed rooms served visitors and the host well both when his wife and children made Twin Palms a family residence, and when he was living the solo party life. With seven coral-colored and desert inspired bathrooms, guests would never need to wait to freshen up or slip into a suit for a late night dip. AD went inside Sinatra’s home on Palm Springs’ Wonder Palms Road in 1998. “Having secured privacy with a fence between his house and the golf course, he added a pair of two-bedroom cottages, one off either end of the pool. The Doll House restaurant was a beloved establishment known for its unique charm and delicious cuisine. This quaint restaurant was housed in a charming dollhouse-like building, capturing the attention of locals and tourists alike. One of the original bathroom sinks in Twin Palms has a crack in the basin from a champagne bottle that Sinatra hurled at Gardner.

His remains are interred alongside his parents’ near his former estate. Laundry was done on the premises and returned wrapped in soft paper. In 1971 several of Frank’s employees, knowing of his love for trains, gave him an actual caboose, in which he installed a sauna, a massage table, a barber chair, an exercise bench, and a huge Toledo scale. His guests used the caboose frequently—hairdressers and masseurs were brought in when needed. Frank’s restaurant-strength kitchen was open around the clock, the staff ready to prepare most any type of food or drink a guest might desire. Late one night Melnick and Tina raided the freezer looking for ice cream and found only two or three flavors of Baskin-Robbins.
And there are Sinatra’s other questionable Twin Palms estates houseguests like Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana and other syndicate members. The residence was built in 1872 and later modified in 1919 by the renowned architect Frederick Sterner, epitomizing timeless elegance and architectural distinction, according to real estate agency Leslie J. Garfield’s website. Many Palm Springs restaurants have a history that spans decades. Ruby’s Dunes became one of the most famous celebrity hangouts.
Liberace (Wladziu Valentino Liberace) was a famous over-the-top piano player. He purchased the Cloisters Hotel of Palm Springs in Sept. of 1967, a Spanish-style, 40-year-old hotel. Belardo Road, and the property, first called “Casa de Liberace,” would later be called “The Cloisters.” It is here Liberace passed away in 1987. His mom lived in the property behind this home that he sold after her death.

It opened on September 29, 1960, and was known as a piano bar and fine food restaurant. There were only a few hotels in this part of Palm Springs, including the Ocotillo Lodge, The Tropics, and the Holiday Inn (now Parker). It was considered elegant and expensive compared to many other restaurants in the area. She is credited in over 60 movies, including Road to Bali, Road to Morocco, and Road to Singapore.

Pickford was a silent film star, and Rogers was a bandleader and star of the silent ear. Charlie Chaplin was a frequent guest, and it is noteworthy that Pickford and her first husband, Douglas Fairbanks, along with Chaplin and D. Fibber Magee and Mollie was a husband and wife team of a very popular radio comedy program from the 1930s to 1950s.
William Bell, a noted golf course architect, was hired to design two golf courses, one on the north side of Murray Canyon Drive and one on the south. The North Course was built first in conjunction with a $1.5 million stunning mid-century modern clubhouse designed by Donald Wexler. The clubhouse housed dressing rooms for members, a dining room and bar, a golf cart barn, and a pro shop featuring the latest in golf clothing and equipment.
His girlfriend at the time, Barbara Marx, was always included. One day, a Sinatra employee confided to Mel that Barbara and Frank planned to marry in four weeks at the Annenberg Estate on a Sunday afternoon on July 11, 1976. Sinatra’s own bedroom was left untouched, his paintings and model trains intact. Local lore recounts that Frank Sinatra walked into architect E. With brass director chairs at the ready, and gorgeous oversized board with giant tiles tucked into this sunny corner just off the patio area, this would’ve been an amazing place to pass an hour or two at leisurely pursuits. There are, however, a few touches that hearken back to the property’s original owner, Ol’ Blue Eyes. One of those is a series of berry hued vintage Dymo labels with phone numbers of famous people and contacts in the Palm Springs area. From the number for Tony Roma’s, to Gene Autry’s personal number, or even one of my personal favorites, Las Casuelas Mexican restaurant, it seems Sinatra had a bunch of people on vintage ‘speed dial’.
