South Charlotte Dog Rescue (SCDR) is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the South Charlotte, NC area. SCDR has observed a great need in our community to rescue, foster, provide medical care and love for the unwanted, homeless, neglected and abused animals we so often see. We are an all-volunteer based 501c3 nonprofit animal rescue centrally located in the greater Charlotte NC area. Our dedicated volunteers are devoted to helping abandoned and abused cats and dogs find loving homes. At a news conference, officials said the suspect, Terry Clark Hughes Jr., had opened fire from the second floor of his house, leaving four members of a fugitive task force dead and four other officers injured. Four members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were also shot, one of whom died from his injuries on Monday night, the police said on social media. The officer who died, Joshua Eyer, had been helping other officers arrest the suspect when he was shot, the police said.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord is one of the largest military installations in the United States, covering close to 415,000 acres of land (including the Yakima Training Center) and employing more than 55,000 military and civilian personnel. It is the largest employer in Pierce County and the third largest employer in all of Washington state. The base has a large, growing residential population and functions as a small city unto itself, complete with autonomous emergency services, commissaries, post offices and various other shops and eateries. Both the Lewis Army Museum and McChord Air Museum are open to the public and offer free admission. They contain a treasure trove of history, antiques and military memorabilia reflecting the Army and the Air Force, respectively. Prior to becoming a joint base under the Base Realignment and Closure Commission in 2010, JBLM was two separate entities, Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base.

Warren, chairman George McCaskey and Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson spoke Wednesday at Soldier Field about the importance of the Bears staying in the city and released images of what the new domed stadium will look like. The Bears’ ideal timeline, pending approval from the state legislature on public financing, is to break ground on the stadium in 2025 and open it for the 2028 season. If everything works out for the Bears to build their new domed stadium on the lakefront south of Soldier Field, they won’t need a temporary home venue.

The prototype Space Shuttle Enterprise was carried to altitude by the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) and released. Adults age 18 and older can play too at the Warrior Zone on Lewis North. The recreational facility offers state-of-the-art gaming, billiards, WiFi throughout and even has a patio with an outdoor fire pit. Those with JBLM access can also patronize GNC Supplement Center, Game Stop, or utilize the services at the UPS Store, Shur-Kleen Car Wash, Enterprise Car Rental and Firestone Auto Center, all of which have multiple locations on the base. JBLM's central location in Pierce County and near Thurston County also means that there is no lack of eateries, grocery stores and countless retail options just outside the gates.
There are currently 16 neighborhoods, each with its own appeal, on Lewis Main and Lewis North and another five located at McChord Field. All on base housing is privatized and managed by Equity Residential and subject to availability. JBLM is home to a multitude of units, as well as a corps headquarters, an airlift wing and an Infantry Division. Military spouses may be traveling alone with their children while their spouse is out to sea. Some service members might just have had a flight delay and are now stranded with nowhere to go. The CLT USO is a place where active service members and their families can feel at ease. They can grab a snack, a cup of coffee or a soda and relax in a comfy recliner. The lounge has computers for personal use and official military business. There are gaming systems, phone chargers, books and no shortage of warm, friendly people to talk to.

Active duty, reserve, and guard service members and their families are permitted in the lounge. Whether traveling to a deployed location or coming home, military ID-card holders are always welcome. USO North Carolina at Charlotte Douglas International Airport is located on the upper level of the Atrium. Each year, the USO Charlotte Airport Center functions as a lounge to more than 125,000 services members and their families. Complimentary refreshments are available to all guests, including light snacks, juices, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages.

One of those dedicated volunteers was Judy Hosmer who donated well over 3,273 hours of her time supporting service members and their families over the past ten years. Although Covid-19 restrictions were in place, soldiers were still able to enjoy a warm welcome! The strain of traveling can take its toll on anyone, but especially on our service members and their families. In addition to the daily stresses and duties of life in the military, many service members may be traveling far from home, or on their way to their next duty station or deployment.
Each subsequent hour may be paid directly to Minute Suites at a rate of $34 (£27) USD. Please note that only one card per visit per cardholder will be accepted at the point of registration. The lounge is available to checked-in departing or arriving passengers, regardless of which airline or class of ticket you have. If you have a lounge access membership card, members of Priority Pass, Lounge Key, and Lounge Club are accepted in all our lounges. Not only is Hosmer a standout volunteer, she goes above and beyond to support the families of the fallen, and is a longtime member of the center’s Honors Support Team. “It is the very least I can do to offer comfort and assistance to the families of our fallen troops who have given the ultimate sacrifice,” said Hosmer.

When you walk into the CLT USO the first thing you notice is that every inch of the walls is covered with mementos from visitors. “They're so proud to give us a challenge coin or a patch,” Milani said. Patches blanket the wall behind the front desk and display cases hold 3,000 challenge coins given to the USO by thankful military members.
